Ground Breaking Drug and Alcohol Research
Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches is one of the only treatment centers in the world who performs and conducts their own drug and Alcohol Research. We feel it is of the utmost importance to determine experiential data based on clinical studies. We are happy to share this information in the hopes of helping other treatment centers get better outcomes for their patients as we are doing.
Spirituality has found a good home here. Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches believes spirituality is a key component to successfully recovering from alcoholism and chemical dependency. Therefore, we offer the Spirituality Track. There is a big difference between religion and spirituality. Spirituality is for everyone. It is not limited to any particular denomination. All people, no matter their heritage or upbringing, are welcomed and free to decide their definition of their own Higher Power.

"I will forever be indebted to Burning Tree for guiding my daughter into recovery and helping me to better understand her illness and how to cope with it. There were many years that I woke up every morning afraid to watch the news because I was certain that the next drug related death they announced would be my daughter. She had been to treatment twice before Burning Tree. She has now been sober since 8/4/03 and it is heartwarming to see not only that she finally cares for and respects herself, but that she is selflessly sharing this knowledge and her experience with those around her. Thank you Burning Tree, from the bottom of my heart."

Silver Hill Hospital is a nationally recognized, independent, not-for-profit psychiatric hospital. Since 1931 we have focused exclusively on providing patients the best possible treatment for psychiatric illness and substance use disorders.
Distinguished by our Continuum of Care
Silver Hill Hospital provides both Inpatient Care as well as longer-stay residential facilities that house our Transitional Living Programs.
Patients who are acutely ill and who require intensive psychiatric and nursing supervision are treated in one of our adult or adolescent inpatient units. Treatments there tend to be medically oriented and the stay is typically short. Inpatient programs focus on rapid evaluation, relief from symptoms of illness and, if appropriate, detoxification from substances of abuse. We have a high staff-to-patient ratio to help patients achieve rapid stabilization.
Patients who are ready for more psychological and behavioral interventions can be treated in our innovative Transitional Living Programs. These programs provide structured, intensive treatment in a residential setting and are designed to help patients continue their recovery until they are ready to return home for further community-based treatment. Patients focus on developing a psychological understanding of their illness, obtaining information about their illness and developing new behavioral skills to manage their recovery process.
Distinguished by our Emphasis on Family Involvement
At Silver Hill Hospital we emphasize the importance of family involvement. Patients and their families meet individually with our clinical staff. Our Family Forum series provides additional education about mental illness and substance use disorders.
Distinguished by our Environment of Care
At Silver Hill Hospital we embrace the belief that the environment of care is as important as the techniques of care. Our beautiful 45-acre country campus offers our patients a setting that fosters the process of recovery.
Insurance and Fees
Silver Hill Hospital participates in many major insurance and managed care company networks, including Aetna, Anthem Behavioral Health, Cigna, Magellan, Managed Health Network, Medicare, Oxford, United Behavioral Health and Value Options. We also accept out-of-network insurances, which cover only a fixed percentage of the total hospital charges. The Transitional Living program is typically not covered by health insurance plans. Mountainside Treatment Center in Canaan, CT has been successfully treating adults who suffer from addiction with better than average results for 10 years now. We are a non-profit alcohol and drug addiction treatment center providing affordable ($1,645.00 per week) residential treatment. We require a minimum 3 week commitment ($4,935.00) and our average length of stay is between 6 and 7 weeks. Residents can and usually do extend their stays at the same $235 per day rate. Our mission is to provide individualized treatment and treatment plans are designed accordingly. We can sometimes help facilitate reimbursement from insurance companies, but we are a self pay program.
Our licensed and certified professional staff is trained in wide areas of counseling. We offer Individual, Group, Gender Specific and Family Counseling as well as a full Mind Body Wellness Program consisting of Yoga, Guided Meditation for relaxation, and Tai Chi. We also offer 12 Step Meetings and Education, Nicotine Recovery, and a full Adventure Based Initiatives Program complete with a Low Ropes Course. We currently offer 5 to 7 hikes per week both on and off our property and facilitate our overnight “Change In Action” Initiative which culminates in a Native American Sweat Lodge.
Mountainside’s counselors are Connecticut Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselors. They will design the individualized treatment plan for a resident who comes to Mountainside including the aftercare. We have an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner with a psychiatric specialty who works in a collaborative agreement with our Medical Director, Dr. Janelli. Our Therapeutic Challenge Program is run by our two Certified Adventure Based Counselors while our Mind, Body, Wellness component is led by Will Boyce. Will is a certified yoga teacher, certified and registered hypnotherapist, certified holistic health counselor, certified professional level Qigong Teacher and is currently working on his PhD in Natural Health. We also have a certified personal trainer who can help our residents with diet and exercise.
We at Mountainside feel the next step after treatment is just as important as the decision to come to treatment. All of our residents work with their counselors to determine the proper aftercare options according to their individual needs.
